About Our Pipes

What is the difference between HDPE and PVC pipes?
HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) pipes are flexible, lightweight, sold in long coils (100m) and excellent for electrical conduit runs through walls and underground. They are corrosion-resistant and UV-stable. PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) pipes are more rigid, available in straight lengths, and used for both electrical conduits and water/plumbing applications. Matha specialises in HDPE wiring pipes while Mighty produces both PVC conduits and uPVC plumbing pipes.
What are uPVC plumbing pipes used for?
Unplasticized PVC (uPVC) plumbing pipes are used for cold water supply lines, overhead tank connections, agricultural water distribution and general plumbing. They are rigid, durable, non-toxic and resistant to rust and corrosion — making them ideal for potable water systems.
Why choose a 100M coil HDPE pipe instead of shorter lengths?
A 100-metre coil eliminates intermediate joints in long wiring runs, reducing failure points. It is ideal for threading wires through walls, under floors and in underground ducts. The flexible coil is also easy to handle and store on construction sites.
What is the difference between ISI and non-ISI conduit pipes?
ISI-marked conduit pipes are certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards and must pass dimensional, impact, bend and fire-retardancy tests. They are mandatory in many government and commercial projects. Non-ISI pipes are lower-cost alternatives suitable for general construction and residential projects where stringent standards are not specified.
What does "Light", "Medium" and "Heavy" mean for conduit pipes?
These refer to wall-thickness gauges of the conduit. Light gauge is thinner and suited for concealed wiring inside walls where no mechanical stress is expected. Medium gauge offers a balance of strength and economy for general use. Heavy gauge has the thickest walls and is used for surface-mounted or exposed conduit runs that face physical impact.
Can uPVC pipes be used for hot water?
No. Standard uPVC pipes are rated for cold water only, generally up to 45°C. For hot water applications, CPVC (Chlorinated PVC) pipes are required, as they can safely handle temperatures up to around 95°C. This is why Mighty Industries is launching a dedicated Mighty CPVC Pipes range.
What does "kgf/cm²" mean in your pipe specifications?
Kgf/cm² (kilogram-force per square centimetre) is a unit of pressure rating. It indicates the maximum internal water pressure a pipe can safely withstand. A pipe rated at 10 kgf/cm² can handle higher pressure than one rated at 4 kgf/cm² — so higher-pressure applications like overhead tank risers need a higher-rated pipe.
How should HDPE and PVC pipes be stored before installation?
Pipes should be stored flat on level ground, away from direct sunlight for extended periods, and not stacked too high to avoid deformation. HDPE coils should be kept loosely wound, and PVC straight lengths should be supported evenly along their length to prevent sagging or bending before use.
Are your conduit pipes fire-retardant?
PVC is inherently self-extinguishing — it does not sustain a flame once the external heat source is removed, unlike many other plastics. ISI-marked conduit pipes additionally undergo flammability testing as part of certification, making them a safer choice for concealed electrical wiring inside walls and ceilings.

Fun Facts About PVC & HDPE Pipes

PVC pipes are nearly 100 years old. The first commercially produced PVC pipe appeared in Germany in the 1930s and has been used in construction ever since.

Water pipes last 100+ years. Properly installed PVC water pipes can have a service life exceeding a century — making them one of the most durable plumbing materials available.

PVC is highly recyclable. Old PVC pipes can be recycled up to 8 times without losing material properties — making recycled PVC a genuine green material.

HDPE is an excellent electrical insulator. High-density polyethylene has a very high dielectric strength, making it ideal for protecting electrical cables from short circuits.

Pound for pound stronger than steel. HDPE pipe has a higher tensile strength-to-weight ratio than steel pipes, yet weighs a fraction of the equivalent metal pipe.

Temperature resistant. PVC conduit pipes are rated to handle temperatures from -15°C to +60°C, making them suitable for the tropical climate of South India year-round.

Termite-proof. Unlike wooden conduit channels, PVC and HDPE pipes are completely termite-resistant — a major advantage in South Indian construction.

HDPE doesn't corrode. Unlike metal pipes, HDPE is completely corrosion-free even in coastal and saline environments — ideal for the coastal districts we serve like Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi.

Lightweight by design. PVC pipe weighs roughly one-fifth of an equivalent cast iron pipe, drastically reducing transport costs and making installation far easier for a two-person crew.

Noise dampening. PVC's molecular structure absorbs vibration, which is why it's often preferred over metal piping in residential drainage to reduce the sound of running water.

Chemically inert. PVC and HDPE both resist a huge range of acids, alkalis and salts, which is why they are also used in chemical processing plants, not just buildings.

Low carbon footprint. Manufacturing PVC pipe requires significantly less energy than producing equivalent metal piping, giving it a smaller carbon footprint across its life cycle.

Dealer & Distributor FAQs

What is the difference between a dealer and a distributor?
A dealer typically operates a retail store and sells directly to end customers like electricians, plumbers and homeowners. A distributor buys in larger bulk quantities and supplies to multiple dealers or retailers within a region. Both roles are open, and we tailor pricing and minimum order quantities accordingly.
What is the minimum investment to become a distributor?
Investment depends on the territory size and product range you wish to stock. Once you contact us, we'll discuss minimum order quantities and credit terms suited to your business scale during the agreement stage.
Do I need prior experience in the pipe or hardware industry?
No prior experience is required for dealers or sales agents. Our training covers product specifications, applications and selling points so you can get started with confidence, regardless of your background.
Can I sell both Matha and Mighty products together?
Yes. Most of our dealers and distributors stock both brands together — Matha HDPE wiring pipes and conduit fittings alongside Mighty's PVC conduits and uPVC plumbing pipes — to offer customers a complete range under one roof.
How is my sales territory decided?
We review existing dealer and distributor coverage in your district before onboarding new partners, to avoid oversaturating any one area. This is discussed and finalised during the agreement step.
What does the sales agent role involve?
Sales agents work on a commission basis, generating leads and orders for Matha & Mighty products without necessarily holding their own inventory. It's a good fit for individuals already familiar with builders, electricians or hardware retailers in their area.
How long does the application process take?
After you contact us or submit the form, our team typically responds within 2 working days to discuss next steps. The full process — from first contact to agreement and training — usually completes within 1–2 weeks.
Will I get marketing or promotional support?
Yes, dealers and distributors receive product information and branding materials to help showcase Matha and Mighty products in-store, along with ongoing support from our team for any customer queries you can't answer directly.
